Scripture-

And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. Matthew 26:39 (KJV)

Devotion-

Surrender—how many of us can truly say we’ve given our all to Jesus? We often sing, “I surrender all,” but do we live it?

Surrender isn’t giving up; it’s trusting that God’s ways are greater than our understanding. In Matthew 26:39, Jesus, though knowing the Father’s will, struggled in His humanity. Yet, He humbled Himself in prayer and obeyed.

Like Jesus, we face trials, losses, and tough decisions. In those moments, we must lay our burdens before God, trusting His perfect will—even when we can’t see the way forward. True surrender is not just spoken—it’s lived.

When i think about surrendering all i think about loosing independence. No one wants to feel that they MUST depend on someone but no matter how independent we are as a people we still willingly or unwillingly depend on others. Whether it's our partners, our employers or clients, family members or the government we all depend or surrender some of our problems or needs to them. This is a conversation I had to have with myself a few years back during Covid times when I felt hopeless and I wanted to surrender all my worries to someone but couldn't because many were looking at me as that person. I had to turn to God and start truly surrendering my problems to Him and not picking them back up. That was the hardest part for me. Putting all my trust in one place was new for me but I tell you family ever since I truly started doing so I have had a peace that is indescribably with words. Love you all!

Phew!!! Surrendering ALL!!! We sing "I surrender all" with such sincerity. I truly mean it when I sing it but when hardships, disappointment, loss, fear and the list goes on, comes around I forget that I promised to surrender all to Father. I forget to trust Him with all my heart, soul and my mind (Mark 12:30) I forget to not lean on my own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). I forget that "all things work together for good for those who love the Lord and are called according to His Purpose". (Romans 8:28).... How quickly we forget. Heavenly Father, not my will but thy will be done. Father, please let the desire of my heart be the desire you have for me. Father, I don't want to be where you are not. I don't want to go anywhere you did not send me. I don't want to speak my own words but the words you want me to speak. Lead me and guide me to total dependence on you. Mould me and make me into who you want me to be. Amen.
