Scripture:
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. - Isaiah 53: 3-5 KJV
Devotional:
We love to skip straight to Resurrection Sunday but if we’re gonna understand the power of the empty tomb, we have to sit with the pain of the cross.
The road to Calvary was paved with pain. Jesus wasn’t just bruised, He was beaten beyond recognition. The Son of God was spat on, mocked with a crown of thorns and scourged until His flesh tore. This wasn’t just physical torment, it was emotional and spiritual abandonment, too.
And yet… He stayed. He didn’t tap out. He didn’t call the angels or Daddy God. He didn’t save Himself. Why?! You may ask because He was busy saving us.
Every stripe He took was laced with purpose. Every insult was endured for restoration. Every drop of blood was shed in exchange for our freedom.
This wasn’t just punishment, it was a divine exchange. Jesus took on what we deserved so we could receive what we never could earn.
Let this stir something deeper than sympathy. Let it awaken a reverence and gratitude that leads to obedience.
Reflection & Sharing:
Do you still live like you’re trying to earn the love Jesus already died to give?
Great is Your Mercy towards me. Your tender mercy I see day after day. Father, on the way to Calvary, your son was not shown any mercy.... Yet He continued His walk to be crucified like a criminal... Not because He had done anything wrong but because we did. To think that He paid the price for our sins. He redeemed us from the hands of Satan with the most precious price that could be ever used.... His Blood. Blood the symbol of Life. Oh Father, let His Death not be in vain in my life. Let my life always be to honor Him my Lord. The Lord that I so loved, died for me before I was born. Father, never let the sacrifice of Yeshua on the cross and all the things He went through on His Way to Calvary never leave my mind. I love you Lord. Thank you for sending your son to die on a cross for me. Thank you for loving me even when I did not love you. Amen
