SCRIPTURE:

Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing…Luke 5:5

DEVOTION:

Have you ever prepared for a task, studied what needed to be studied,  worked every angle to get the sale, researched everything to be successful at your presentation, prepared for the interview but you failed your exam, you did not get the sale, your presentation was not successful and you did not get the job…failure does not leave a good taste in your mouth. Failure makes us feel like going forward is not an option. What happens if Father instructs you to repeat the failed item when you know you have already tried and failed. Your automatic  response would be “But I tried that already!”

When Simon told Jesus that he had been fishing all night and caught nothing, what did Jesus tell him to do? He told him to drop the net again and Simon putting his trust in Yeshua, he said ‘At your word, I will let down the net.”

REFLECTION & SHARING:

Are you willing to go back to your point of failure upon the prompting of Father? Are you willing to dig in the dried up wells and expect to see water gushing out? (Gen 26:18-25)  Are you willing to gather all the bottles from wherever you can when you have nothing to pour into it? (1 Kings 17:8-24). Something to ponder on.

God definitely has a funny sense of humor. For two years, I’ve been hitting a wall, and every time I said I was done chasing after the goal, God would tell me “No” AND send someone to encourage me to keep going.

Through all of this, with a BORF from my spiritual advisor, I started realizing there were lessons I kept missing. Sure enough, once I finally passed those lessons, God revealed the vision. And then, He told me to WAIT. So now, I’m waiting patiently until He says it’s time to cast the net again.

Returning to my failure? The thought of it, places a lump in my throat, a knot in my stomach and the feeling of becoming best friends with the porcelain in my bathroom. It took me a very very long time to realize that there is value in the valleys of life. When I failed in the past, I would be afraid to even look in the direction of my failure or even be seen by the persons who knew that I failed. It really did a number on me. I have since learnt that the God who is the God of the mountain top is the same God of the Valley. I have since learnt to be responsible for the role I played in the failure. Failure is subjective. I have adopted a process about 10 to 15 years ago.... Whenever I complete a project or a process.... I ask myself.... What did I do good? What could I have done better? What have I learnt from this? I usually document my findings and celebrate the things that went right, the things I did good. I address the things I could have done better so I may turn my challenges into opportunities for future success.
When failure occurs be kind to yourself and look forward to future successes. God Bless
