Scripture-

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. – 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

Devotional-

Fear is sneaky. It shows up as hesitation, self-doubt, and second-guessing. It makes you overthink decisions God already gave you peace about. But here’s the thing, fear is a liar. It doesn’t come from God. It’s a tool the enemy uses to keep you small and stagnant.

Peter’s story is a perfect example. When Jesus called him to walk on water, Peter actually did it. But the second he focused on the wind instead of Jesus, he sank. The storm didn’t take him down, his fear did. That’s what happens when we take our eyes off God and put them on the circumstances.

You weren’t designed to live timidly. God gave you power, he strength to overcome, love to keep you grounded, and a sound mind to stay steady when fear tries to cloud your thoughts.

Reflection & Sharing-

What fear has been holding you back? Is it fear of failure, rejection, or stepping into the unknown? Today, challenge it. Speak God’s promises over your situation and take a bold step, even if you’re still afraid. Faith moves, even when fear lingers.

Faith over Fear. When I was younger, yes.... I missed out on opportunities because I was afraid of failure. When I was younger, I accepted things in relationships because I was afraid of being alone. There were lots of things I have done or not done out of fear in my life. Today, I am a lot older and my spiritual walk is a lot stronger but I always marvel at Peter... My favorite disciple... That he said... Lord of it is you, bid me come... He had the faith to step out the boat, he walked on water, then he began to sink when he took his eyes off Yeshua but he was smart enough to cry out to Yeshua to save him. Psalm 121.... I will lift up my eyes to the hills from which cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord... Is one of my go to scriptures. Romans 8:28 and Romans 8:18 are two other of my go to scriptures among others. Now that I am older, I lean more on Father's promises than my fear.

One of my favorite scriptures, and a daily reminder, is: “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”

I fear failure and a life of mediocrity, but when doubt or hesitation creeps in, I hold onto His promise. In that truth, I find strength and peace.

I’ve seen God’s promise manifest in my life in ways that constantly leave me in awe. One powerful example is when I purchased my home. In 2020, while working in the real estate industry, I closely monitored the market. Interest rates were dropping, home prices were rising, and rent costs were climbing just as fast.

When my leasing office sent a notice to renew my lease, I was shocked at the increase. I refused to pay that much for rent. My friend Myles would always remind me, “Your rent is higher than my mortgage.” Then Kirt, who had recently bought a home, told me, “Girl, my mortgage is way lower than that.”

Thankfully, Mother Sherma had taught us the importance of setting aside savings in an account we don’t touch, out of sight, out of mind. When I finally checked mine, I realized I had built up a solid savings. That was my confirmation to move forward.

I sought loan approval from multiple lenders, but they all said my debt-to-income (DTI) ratio was too high. One lender wanted me to pay off my student loans, another my car loan, and finally, one approved me for $375K with a 3.75% interest rate.

During closing, I negotiated $10K in closing costs when they originally offered $5K, and I secured a 2.25% interest rate, even with a high DTI. My real estate team was in awe because, logically, it didn’t make sense. But I knew who I believed in. God had always been faithful, and once again, He showed up and showed out. I walked into closing with $12K and left with money back in my pocket. Look at God!

No matter what the situation looks like, trust Him in every aspect of your life. With faith, He can turn anything around.
