SCRIPTURE:
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than yours and My thoughts than your thoughts - Isaiah 55:9
DEVOTION:
Rarely does God do things exactly the way we think He will. Humans have the nerve from way back in the bible to question how God should do things, Sarai thought she would help God by giving her handmaiden Haggar to be Abraham’s wife and when things between Sarai and Haggar went array, she went to Abraham to fix it. When God said to Moses that He was going to use him to free the people of Israel and instead of Pharaoh releasing the people as soon as Moses requested, God hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and the people complained. Moses in turn, returns to God and accuses him of letting hardship fall on the people instead of letting them go free. Everytime God does something, He does it well. All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). Have you ever done the will of God and things seem to become worse? Don’t you become jarred or discouraged? It is not a wise thing for us to attempt to do God’s work using your own “common sense”. God does not eliminate your “common sense”, He consecrates it. He gives us His wisdom so we can understand His ways.
REFLECTION & SHARING:
As you look back in your life, can you recognize God’s Supreme Wisdom in how He has led you to where you are now? As you look forward to what God may do, be careful you do not try to predict what He will do next but trust Him with all your heart and lean not unto thy own understanding, in all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Yup!!! I am a fixer!!! I am always trying to make things better!!! I am the one always trying not to leave anyone out!! There is nothing wrong with any of these qualities but where I go wrong is when I decide to allow my zeal to go before the Holy Spirit. When I think God needs help or I can't wait on God. Believe you me I can rattle off Proverbs 3:5-6 or Isaiah 40:31 and God knows what other scriptures, the challenge I face. At times I sign Jesus' name to things that He did not approve of. I did it in the way I wanted to not the way Father wanted me to. Lord, help me to wait on you and acknowledge who you are and lean not unto my own understanding but only on your direction. Forgive me Lord.
I’ve gotta admit—I’m guilty of trying to help God out. That controlling side of me kicks in, and my inner princess shows up like, “Safiya wants what Safiya wants.”
And honestly, once I set my mind on something, I’m going after it—hell or high water—even if it ends up hurting me in the process.
Ah, Lord! I have to keep praying for mercy and asking Him to help me stop leaning on my own understanding. I’m learning that when I truly trust Him and follow His lead, things flow way smoother and come together a whole lot faster.
