SCRIPTURE:
Be Still and know that I am God - Ps 46:10
DEVOTION:
In our world today, being still is not a common activity. In a world of time management and multitasking, being still is not popular. In our world ADHD diagnosis is becoming more and more common within our childhood population. To ask someone to be still seems counterproductive but our Lord reminds us to be still. Being still does not mean doing nothing but it does mean to keep your focus on Him and not be distracted with the things of the world. Be still and observe God’s majesty on high, look at even the tiny ant and see the majesty of Father, be still and listen to the borrowed breath of God that flows through your body. As you learn to be still, you will hear things that you never heard before.
REFLECTION & SHARING:
Lord teach me to be still so the things of the world would grow surely dim and the things of you would grow brighter and brighter every day. Teach me how to wait on you and be still knowing that no matter what, you are still God and you are still on your throne.
The concept of being still i have always equated it to doing nothing. I can remember as a kid adults always told kids to sit still or be still. Or your parents come in your room and say you still sleeping. So when as an adult people would tell me about meditating and be still and was like that sounds boring if I stay still too long I'm going to sleep. However I am learning that it is ok not doing something every second, but enjoy being still. I enjoy going to the beach either really early or at night and just being still and present with my surroundings and with The Most High.
Be Still.... Be Still... Be Still.... Even to write those words commands a sense of reverence and a sense of awe. Many years ago, I would even say even decades ago, when I was not walking with the Lord, the way I am today, I would use this scripture to center Myself. On my mahogany desk in my Wall Street office were taped these words in this format:
Be
Be Still
Be Still and
Be Still and Know
Be Still and Know that
Be Still and Know that I
Be Still and Know that I AM
Be Still and Know that I AM GOD!!!
When my life felt out of control or I was extremely upset or I was challenged by something.... That is putting it nicely, when I am pissed at a situation or at the world for whatever reason... When I felt out of control... Meditating on these words in this format would center me. It made me calm. I very rarely got past line 3 or 4 before my "chi" would be aligned again. Ohhhhh worthy is your name Oh God to be praised!!! Let your word be a Lamp unto my feet and a light unto my pathway. I love you My God!!! Blessed be your Name!!! Amen.
