SCRIPTURE:
My sheep hear my voice, I know them and they follow me - John 10:27
DEVOTION:
In the Old Testament, God calls the prophet Samuel while he was in the temple under the guidance of Eli, the high priest. Thinking that Eli was calling him, Samuel went to Eli a couple times but on the 3rd time, Eli realized that it must be God calling out to Samuel so Eli told Samuel that the next time he heard the voice calling his name, Eli instructed him to say “Speak Lord thy servant heareth.” Eli realized that Samuel did not know the voice of God. In John 10:27, Christ says that his sheep hears his voice, he knows them and they follow him. Both examples show that it is important for us to know the voice of God. A lot of times, we concentrate on speaking to Father and we spend very little time listening to Him so we do not become accustomed to what his voice sounds like. Take the time to listen.
REFLECTION & SHARING:
Do you know the voice of God? How will you learn what the voice of God sounds like?
Good day family, from a young girl i have always heard God's voice but didn't realize it until I was x much older.i spend a lot of time in my head reflecting on different interactions I may have had previously or just reflecting on my plans or thoughts. So I assumed the voice i would hear at times was just me giving another perspective. I can't remember when I realized the voice I was hearing was God but I will never forget the feeling I had when I realized it was Him. I could see why Samuel was looking for the voice he heard was coming from a person in the flesh. When we are small children our parents allow us to use our imaginations right and there is nothing we think is impossible but as we grow we are taught to live in the world we can SEE. We get away from the unseen and now we try to apply logic to everything. We hear a noise we have to find a logical explanation for it right. I think for many to hear the voice of God we have to first believe in the unseen and all hold on to a piece of ourselves that we're like small kids believing all things are possible.
Yes, I do hear God’s voice, and He speaks to me in different ways. Sometimes, it’s through the stillness after I pray, through His Word, or through that deep peace (or unease) in my spirit. Other times, He speaks through people like Pastor Delores during yesterday’s sermon.
Saturday, I was spiraling, asking God a lot of questions, but there were a few that really pulled at my heart strings. And then… BOOM 💥 … Pastor D said something that hit me so hard I felt it in my big toe! My Chinese power kicked in immediately.
I love when I ask God something, and He answers in different ways. Lately, I’ve grown to appreciate when He straight up tells me, WAIT. But I’ll be real, at first, I wasn’t having it. I’d go before Him with an ATTITUDE , like, Lord, your humble servant comes before your throne of grace… have I not served You from my youth? And I would state my heartfelt complaint.
And of course, my “heartfelt complaint” was really just me being frustrated about Him saying WAIT or NO. Nothing humble about it. But I thank Him for His patience because, whew, His mercy and grace is always towards me.
For those who do not know, I am an introvert!!! Yes believe it!!! Somehow because of my spiritual gifts and my profession I have become a real chatterbox but my favorite times are sitting still in the Lord. I sometimes get so busy that I miss out on those times with Father. Lord, I ask that you continue to teach me how to be still in you, even in the midst of busy days so that I do not miss anything you have to say to me. Direct my path in you. Hone my spiritual hearing so that I can hear you even when you whisper. Merciful Father, speak.... Thy servant heareth. Amen
